Accountant

Job Description 

Our client is looking for an experienced accountant to fill an upcoming vacancy in the department. In this role you will ensure the smooth performance of all bookkeeping and accounting activities encompassing accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, g/l transactions, month end entries, monthly financial reporting and government remittances. You will also be the primary point of contact with the external auditors for year-end statement preparations and tax filings. While the company will account for the majority of your accounting activities, the right candidate will also have various duties relating to other holding companies and commercial enterprises. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day activities of the accounting staff and will act as an individual contributor as required.

MAIN ACCOUNTING ACTIVITIES

• Review and process weekly payroll, Union Dues/RRSP, post Payroll GL, annual T4/T4(A) processing;

• Oversee AP to process A/P invoices and payments for weekly cheque run;

• Oversee AR to process A/R invoices and make sure payments are collected within customers’ terms;

• Ensure compliance with government remittances including payroll taxes, EHT, WSIB, HST and all other statutory filings;

• Perform and ensure monthly reconciliation of all general ledger accounts to ensure financial accounts are fairly presented and accurate, errors are corrected, appropriate financial recoveries have been made, and issues are resolved and/or escalated;

• Work closely with the owners to review and analyze monthly financial reports;

• Prepare backup schedules and supporting documents for corporate interim and year-end financial statements;

• Manage the daily duties of accounting staff, provide training and support to accounting staff;

• Special projects as requested by senior management;

• Process ad-hoc payments as required;

• Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Background in manufacturing/injection molding an asset

• Minimum of 5 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience

OTHER SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

• An accounting background preferred with very strong accounting knowledge as it pertains to general ledger processing, reconciliation and transactions

• Working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Strong understanding of federal and provincial remittance requirements

• Knowledge of payroll including WSIB, ROE’s, EHT, T4’s

• Experience with Sage 50 or IQMS ERP

• Excellent communication skills

• High degree of professionalism

• Strong work ethic and reliability
